About the role
East Side House (ESH), founded in 1891, is a 501(c)(3) organization that has served the South Bronx since 1963. The George Washington Young Adult Borough Center (YABC) is an alternative afternoon and evening program designed to meet the educational needs of high school students who are behind in credit or have adult responsibilities that make it hard to attend school during the day. Students attend YABCs part-time in the afternoon or evening to earn a high school diploma. The YABC program is designed to re-engage high school students who are over-age and under-credited or have dropped out of high school. ESH is directly responsible for the administration of each school’s Learning-to-Work Program, which enhances the school’s academic component by offering additional academic support, career and education exploration, work preparation, skills development, and internships.
