About the role
Prep Cooks play a vital role in organizing everything in advance and during service to make the kitchen efficient and well-oiled. You ensure the kitchen runs smoothly through preparation, organization, and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Follow all company safety and sanitation policies and procedural training.
- Prepare menu items according to Flanigan’s company recipe manual and plate presentation.
- Ensure rotation of all products and stock products to par level to avoid kitchen disruptions.
- Complete assigned prep work to stock and set up stations as necessary.
- Transport items to and from the kitchen and assist vendors with unloading delivery trucks.
- Clean and maintain the kitchen area throughout the shift.
- Break down and clean all stations at closing.
- Communicate ticket times, execute food flow from kitchen to guests, and report potential issues to the Manager on duty.
- Safely use kitchen machinery (Open Flame Grill, Stove, Slicer, etc.).
- Work safely with hot plates, pots, pans, sharp knives, and utensils.
- Assist fellow employees with dishwashing and cleaning as needed.
- Complete and pass a food safety certification program in compliance with Flanigan’s and Florida statutes.
Requirements
- Able to work a flexible shift schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
- Can physically stand/walk 100% of the shift.
- Can reach, bend, and stoop.
- Ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Able to read recipes and food labels.
- Able to read POS ticket orders.
- Able to safely use kitchen machinery (e.g., Open Flame Grill, Stove, Slicer).
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. several times per shift and lift heavy loads to high shelves, coolers, and freezers.
- Able to hold items weighing up to 5 lbs. for long periods of time.
- Work in a high-temperature, damp environment indoors and minimally outdoors.
