About the Role

This position supports the aircraft modification and heavy maintenance program for the F-35 program. The modification team is based at Hill AFB, UT, and the candidate will be required to travel to other F-35 locations within the CONUS and OCONUS in support of program requirements. Travel may exceed 50% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical manuals, structure repair manuals, symbols, flags, and general notes.
  • Identify aircraft locations by station, butt-line, and waterline as shown on engineering documentation and technical orders.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, tape measures, and standard scales.
  • Utilize tools such as drills, angle motors, shears, drill press, and pneumatic riveter.
  • Fabricate detail parts such as shims, splices, gussets, angles, brackets, doublers, stiffeners, and patches.
  • Use shop aids to facilitate assembly and installation as required.
  • Perform bonding of aircraft parts, assemblies, and materials where methods and operational sequences are not established.
  • Exercise knowledge of bonding practices, procedures, and layouts for exacting fits where critical surface contours must be maintained.
  • Verify application and condition of installed Low Observable (LO) materials for conformity to specifications.
  • Set up and operate material testers and mixers; record data and procedural information.
  • Improvise shop aids to facilitate fabrication, application, or assembly operations.
  • Fabricate shims, brackets, and plates; perform assembly operations such as trimming, filing, drilling, riveting, and fitting parts.
  • Work in a safe and efficient manner while maintaining a clean, FOD-free work area.
  • Perform repetitive movements, work overhead, and engage in physical tasks including standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, squatting, crawling, and twisting.

Requirements

  • 4 years of Fighter aircraft Sheet Metal/Structures experience.
  • Previously awarded a 5 or 7 Skill level USAF AFSC, Navy NEC, or Marine MOS discipline rating, WG08 Civil service, or an equivalent Airframe and Power Plant (A&P) FAA certificate.
  • Experience with Tool Control, FOD, Supply, HAZMAT, Training, Quality, and Security programs.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an Interim Secret Clearance prior to starting.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Passport.
  • Willing and able to travel greater than 50% of the time to CONUS/OCONUS locations.
  • Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive movements.
  • This position may require certain military-required health screenings and immunizations.

Desired Skills

  • F-35 Depot Level modifications/Structural repairs experience.
  • Knowledge of Maintenance Information Systems such as Electronic Maintenance Instructions, Aircraft Forms Documentation, and Supply Chain Management.
  • 5th Generation Aircraft Modification experience.
  • Experience with Low Observable Coatings application.

Pay

Full-Time Salary Range: $33.37 - $61.92 per hour.
