Structures Estimator
Job Summary
The Estimator will play a crucial role in our project planning and execution phase, focusing on cost estimation, bid proposal preparation, and the initial stages of project management for bridge construction projects. This position requires a combination of technical knowledge, analytical skills, and effective communication to ensure accurate and competitive project bidding.
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for bridge construction projects by analyzing project drawings, specifications, and other documentation.
- Develop preliminary project schedules.
- Conduct thorough reviews of potential projects to determine feasibility, risk, and profitability.
- Collaborate with the project management team to align project objectives and strategies.
- Compile project risk matrix and formulate risk mitigation strategies.
- Liaise with vendors and subcontractors to solicit and evaluate bids, ensuring all estimates include up-to-date pricing and availability of materials and labor.
- Perform quote comparisons and make recommendations for selection.
- Engage with clients during the bidding process to clarify project requirements, adjustments, and to foster strong professional relationships.
- Present and explain project proposals to clients, designers, and operations teams.
- Maintain detailed records of all estimations, bids, and initial project specifications to ensure transparency and accuracy in project initiation.
- Absorb and assist in oversight of historical cost database, bid management, and estimating software.
- Work closely with the project management, engineering, and construction teams to ensure seamless project transitions from estimation to execution.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Experience with estimation software (e.g., Agtek Gradework, Highway, Underground and Materials, AutoCAD, HCSS HeavyBid, and/or Bid2Win, Bluebeam Revu).
- Proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and the latest industry standards.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Capable of working in a team environment and handling client interactions professionally.
- Able to manage multiple bids and projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
