Structures Engineer, Aerospace & Defense (All Levels)
About the role
Divergent is seeking a skilled and motivated engineer to support the next generation of industry-leading aerospace vehicle development. The Structures Engineer will be responsible for the product development through the entire product life cycle, from program kick-off to start of production.
Responsibilities
- Create and manage CAD designs of the components, as well as the BOM structure.
- Build up and analyze FE models of Node™-based vehicle structures applications including validation using hand calculations and optimization.
- Create, refine, and execute new technical solutions for automotive structures to support external customer programs and joint development efforts.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment within the DAPS Product Engineering team and cross-functionally with other disciplines to efficiently design and release structures that are optimized for mass, efficient production, and assembly.
- Work cross-functionally to implement cost reduction, methods and product improvements, and support prototype and production build activities.
- Maintain technical documentation, including best practices and lesson learned.
- Support vehicle builds and product development testing and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- Ability to lawfully access information and technology that is subject to US export controls.
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Experience in structure design.
- CAD experience creating detailed models. Siemens NX is a plus.
- PLM experience. Teamcenter is a plus.
- Experience in structural analysis.
- Experience in analysis software packages such as Nastran, Optistruct, and/or LS-Dyna.
- Solid understanding of linear/nonlinear behaviors of advanced materials (composites, adhesives, metals) to achieve lightweight structural solutions.
- Experience with aerospace load applications and MIL-STDs.
- Outstanding comprehension of solid mechanics.
- Solid interpersonal skills and motivated self-starter who can manage personal workload and execution to tight schedule.

- Basic Qualifications:

- Experience interfacing with engineering, testing, and manufacturing groups to understand system designs and the associated constraints.
- Experience with DFMEA, DVP, control plans, PPAP and APQP.
- Knowledge of overall vehicle systems/sub-systems and requirements.
- Experience supporting analysis and completing documentations for product approval and launch.
- Experience supporting structural design and analysis throughout the design, build, and test phases of a development cycle.
- Experience with fast iteration prototyping programs.
- Experience with managing system configurations and managing changes to size, weight, and cost constraints.
- Supported or engaged directly with DoD airworthiness stakeholders such as Air Force Test Center (AFTC) or FAA.
