Position Overview

Aurora Flight Sciences, a Boeing Company, is seeking a Structures Design Engineer- Staff/Senior to contribute to the design, build, and fly of advanced aircraft and enabling technologies. This role involves technical leadership, design and development, project execution, cross-functional collaboration, and mentorship.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical authority, lead design teams, and mentor junior engineers.
  • Design and Development: Create and maintain CAD models, develop detailed designs, and ensure compliance with structural integrity, weight, and cost targets.
  • Project Execution: Own project execution, coordinate with various teams, and track progress towards program milestones.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with manufacturing, tooling, and quality control teams, prepare technical presentations, and mentor junior designers.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a US Security Clearance (US Citizenship required).
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Competence with CAD software, particularly CATIA V5.
  • Knowledge of industry standards for composite component design, manufacturing, repair, and assembly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Requirements

  • Expertise in CATIA V5 modules, including Generative Surface Design, Part Design, and Assembly.
  • Advanced knowledge of composite material structures.
  • Familiarity with prototype and rate production, including manufacturing tooling design.
  • Experience with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of Model-Based Definition (MBD) methods.

Physical Requirements

Ability to work on-site on a weekly basis at Aurora Flight Sciences’ Manassas, VA or Cambridge, MA locations.

Benefits

Aurora Flight Sciences offers a competitive salary range, typically between $92,000.00 and $199,000.00 annually, with a maximum range of $112,000.00 to $164,000.00. Additional benefits include health insurance, flexible spending accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability insurance, and paid and unpaid time off.
