Responsibilities

• Ensure each individual assigned to perform maintenance under your team is qualified to work on the assigned customer program and is capable of performing the job properly, assessing required training and skills.
• Provide on-the-job training and technical assistance to personnel in your crew.
• Evaluate the performance of personnel on your crew and make recommendations to your supervisor.
• Perform only work authorized by your supervisor and ensure it meets the standards of good workmanship required by VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering, Inc. (VT MAE).
• Ensure all tools and equipment used by your crew are kept in serviceable condition and stored in an orderly manner.
• Recommend to your supervisor any requirements or improvements for your crew.
• Exercise control over stock checked out of the Stockroom by employees on your crew.
• Complete your crew timecards and approve all hours worked.
• Report to your supervisor, with recommendations, any personnel problems that cannot be resolved satisfactorily within the crew.
• Recommend disciplinary action within your crew.
• Assist your supervisor in evaluating non-routine work cards for parts, manhours, and span time, and indicate corrective action.
• Monitor work progress continuously and keep your supervisor apprised of the status, particularly on jobs that are off schedule.
• Assist your supervisor in preparation of the shift status and change-over reports.
• Ensure all work tasks requiring a co-signer are properly signed by the end of your shift.
• Perform any work that may be assigned by your supervisor.
• Read, interpret, and work from all Service Bulletins, AD's, EO's, & EA's.
• Provide assigned task planning/scheduling and ensure goals are met.
• Communicate with internal groups (Planning, Materials, Fabrication, etc.) concerning aircraft issues.
• Communicate with Customers, Engineers, etc., concerning work related to aircraft sheet metal tasks.
• Maintain attentiveness and knowledge of assigned job budget as well as planned aircraft budget.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Airframe license and/or Repairman Certificate (must understand, read, and write English IAW CFR 14, Part 145).
• 4 years of heavy commercial maintenance experience, specifically in the Structures field on heavy commercial aircraft.
• Proficient working knowledge in all lower Sheet metal Job skill progression titles.
• Good working knowledge or ability to acquire the skills of a Lead Mechanic.
• Proficient working knowledge of the following skills and the ability to learn skills among various narrow and wide-body commercial aircraft:
  • Proficient detail blueprint reading.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from service bulletins, engineering work orders, and major SRM structural repairs.
  • Ability to layout work using bend radius, set back, and bend allowance charts.
  • Utilization of shop math.
  • Install and/or splice spars, landing gear, trunnion changes, pressure bulkhead repairs, and keel beam repairs/removal and reinstall.
  • Knowledge of ATA codes.
  • Knowledge of all applicable F.A.R.’s and company policies and procedures including job clocking, routine/non-routine cards, work sign-off/sell-off procedures.

Work Environment

• Requires mobility around various sections of aircraft and the dexterity to extract and replace parts in a timely manner.
• Requires mental skills and quickness with the ability to cope with stress and intense effort or exertion, often due to long working hours.
• Must have the capacity to gain knowledge by hearing for one’s own safety due to the dangers involved in the operations of shop equipment.
• Working environment requires standing 90% of the workday on hard surfaces.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and report to work regularly.
