About the Role

The Construction Crew Leader plans work methods and procedures for construction and street crews, ensuring safe and efficient operations. This role involves work site setup, traffic control, hazard observation, employee supervision, and hands-on assistance with infrastructure maintenance. It is a physically active, outdoor career for individuals who enjoy meaningful work and seeing tangible results in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Assign daily tasks, monitor work quality, and ensure adherence to safety and traffic control protocols.
  • Direct the setup of traffic control around flooded areas and repair road damage caused by flooding or damaged pipes.
  • Repair potholes, damaged pavements, and maintain sidewalks, curbs, and public rights-of-way.
  • Operate light, medium, and heavy machinery (e.g., dump trucks, vac con, sweeper truck, excavators) for tasks such as pipe installation, traffic control, cave-in repairs, BMP area maintenance, ditch digging, and soil/debris management.
  • Maintain buildings, assist in storm preparation and cleanup, attend safety meetings, communicate with the public, and document project progress while complying with environmental regulations.
  • Train subordinate workers, lead safety tailgates, and assist with hiring and performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum three (3) years of related heavy equipment experience.
  • Current Class B CDL.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 90 days of employment.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, including hurricanes, snow, and ice storms.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment and lift heavy objects.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying materials and equipment.
  • Exposure to traffic and active work zones.
