Structural Welder J1-J4 Nightshift

About the role

General Dynamics NASSCO, a member of the General Dynamics Marine Systems business unit, specializes in ship construction, advanced ship repair, conversion, and maintenance for commercial and national defense assets. This opportunity is in the Steel Shop at our Norfolk, Virginia facility, hiring five Structural Welders (J1‑J4) to work the night shift.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding using SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes.
• Hook up and operate oxygen‑acetylene torches.
• Read weld gauges and use hand tools under close supervision.
• Interpret weld symbols and apply standard item 1689.
• Follow 5S guidelines in the work area.

Requirements

• Ability to obtain DBIDS and NAVSEA badges to access Navy installations and other shipyards.
• No security clearance required.

Physical Requirements

• Carrying, lifting, walking, climbing, pulling.
• Ability to work on vessels, crawl, sit, crouch, stand, stoop, kneel.
• Visual and hearing capabilities, and ability to talk while performing duties.

Schedule

Night shift: 3 pm – 11 pm.
