About the role

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is seeking an experienced trades worker for their R3, Section 6 buildings. This position will perform building maintenance, repair, replacement, and remodeling tasks.

Responsibilities

• Building maintenance repair, replace, preservation, remodel, and install exhaust fans, doors, windows, roofs, locks, heaters, walls, ceilings, gutters, garage doors and openers, carpet, tile, concrete, lighting, plumbing and electrical fixtures.
• Preventative maintenance and repairs to swamp coolers, heat and air conditioning units, and fuel pumps.
• Bridge deck repair, including crack and joint sealing, roto-milling of both flexible and rigid bridge decks.
• Bridge superstructure maintenance and repair, including painting, bridge curb repair, wheel guard repair, and rail repair.
• Section wide right of way weed spraying.
• Section wide culvert cleaning with a Vac Truck.
• Section wide right of way mowing.
• Cleaning debris from building roofs, drains, and walkways.
• Maintain, replace, and install signs, delineators, fence, guard rail, cable rail, concrete rail, attenuators, etc.
• Set up traffic control zones.
• Provide support for area Maintenance Patrols during snow removal and de-icing operations.
• Operate and maintain equipment to support skilled labor during maintenance activities.
• Maintain operational readiness.
• Utilize technology to monitor weather conditions.
• Perform and assist in daily planning and scheduling of activities.
• Ensure professional interactions with internal and external customers.

Requirements

• Obtain CDL Permit within 30 days of hire and CDL Class A within 120 days of hire.
• Obtain Certified Operator weed spray license with the Right of Way category within 12 months of hire.
• Pass pre-employment screening, which may include social security number trace, criminal records check, public court records check, educational records, and driving records checks.
• Possess the ability to operate various hand and power tools.
• Be willing and physically able to work in extreme temperatures and variable weather conditions.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Qualifications

• Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in the structural trades (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting or masonry).
• A combination of related education and experience equal to four (4) years.
• Experience in structural trades (carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, painting or masonry).

Skills

• Demonstrated success with the duties listed in the Description of the Job section.
• Years of State service experience related to the duties of this position.
• Knowledge of and experience in the skilled labor crafts of carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, construction, painting, and masonry.
• Experience effectively using several types of hand and power tools.
• Experience operating gators, bobcats, and forklifts.
• Working knowledge and understanding of the best practices for fire, safety, and ADA rules and regulations.
• Ability to evaluate maintenance/repair requirements and estimate costs.
• Excellent reasoning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving ability.

Pay

The position is paid biweekly with 26 pay periods per year.

Schedule

Primary schedule is 4-10 hour shifts in the summer months, and 5-8 hour shifts in the winter months.

Conditions of Employment

• On-call shift work.
