Responsibilities
- Develop and convert CAD to FEA-ready models
- Perform structural, thermal, and coupled thermo-mechanical analyses for thermal and mechanical systems
- Develop finite element models (FEMs) to evaluate stress, deformation, vibration, fatigue, thermal gradients, and margins of safety
- Conduct steady-state and transient thermal analyses involving conduction, convection, and radiation heat transfer
- Support design trade studies and optimization efforts related to strength, stiffness, weight, and thermal performance
- Interpret analytical results and provide practical engineering recommendations to multidisciplinary project teams
- Correlate analytical predictions with laboratory or field test data
- Develop and validate hand calculations to support and verify computational models
- Participate in prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and root-cause investigations
- Prepare technical reports and present engineering findings to internal teams and customers
- Contribute to new technology development initiatives
Desired Technical Experience
- Candidates should possess experience in several of the following areas:
- Structural mechanics and stress analysis (analytical and FEA)
- Thermal analysis and heat transfer (analytical and FEA)
- Dynamic, vibration, or modal analysis
- Fatigue and failure analysis
- Aerospace or defense hardware analysis
- Electronics thermal management
- Experimental correlation and test support
- Material behavior under thermal or structural loading, ideally including creep conditions and associated modeling
Professional Requirements
- Candidates should have a BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- A minimum of 5+ years of post-graduate relevant experience
- A solid foundation of structural static/dynamic and thermal heat transfer fundamentals
- The ability to solve a variety of structural static/dynamic and thermal heat transfer problems using physics-based analytical methods (hand calculations, in-house tools, and 3rd party commercial analytical tools)
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
