Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician

Location: Richmond, VA | Job Type: Full-Time or Contract-to-Hire

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fitter / Layout Technician for a shop-based fabrication position. This role focuses on structural steel layout, fitting, assembly, and quality checks.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications
• Complete layout, fitting, and assembly of structural steel components
• Measure, mark, align, and position steel according to job requirements
• Set up and operate fabrication equipment, including a track torch
• Check dimensions and ensure components meet required specifications
• Inspect finished work for quality, accuracy, and compliance
• Work with supervisors and other team members to meet production schedules
• Keep the work area safe, clean, organized, and productive

Requirements

• Previous experience with structural steel fitting, layout, or fabrication
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
• Hands-on experience fitting and assembling structural steel components
• Ability to set up and operate a track torch
• Working knowledge of welding processes, fabrication equipment, and shop tools
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Willingness to follow established safety procedures

Qualifications

AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.

Pay

Starting pay: $28.00/hour + $3.00/hour shift differential for 2nd shift. Higher pay depending on experience.

Schedule

1st and 2nd shifts available.
