This position serves as a critical link between engineering, fabrication, project management, and field installation. The Structural Steel Detailer must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing quality work while meeting project schedules. Responsibilities
Work responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Structural Steel Detailing
- Create detailed fabrication and erection drawings using Tekla Structures.
- Produce shop drawings for structural steel members, stairs, handrails, miscellaneous metals, and custom fabricated components per fabricators established standards.
- Generate deliverable packages for fabrication and field use, including PowerFab Data, CNC Files, Bolt Lists, Stud Lists, Manufactured Part Lists, Assembly Drawings, Single Part Drawings, Advanced Purchasing Data, etc.
- Review contract drawings, specifications, addenda, and engineering documents.
- Verify dimensions, connections, member sizes, and detailing requirements.
- Coordinate projects with project managers, engineers, architects, fabricators, and erection crews.
- Project Coordination
- Prepare and track Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Review design revisions and incorporate changes into project documents.
- Participate in project kickoff meetings and detailing reviews.
- Communicate drawing conflicts or constructability concerns promptly.
- Assist in maintaining project schedules and milestones.
- Quality Control
- Checking Drawings and Model Data as skills allow.
- Ensure compliance with company detailing standards.
- Maintain accuracy and completeness of project documents.
- Support checking and quality assurance processes.
- Minimize fabrication and erection errors through attention to detail.
- Continuous Improvement
- Assist in refining detailing standards and workflows.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training.
- Stay current on industry standards, software updates, and best practices.
- Support and mentor less experienced detailers when appropriate.

Required Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of structural steel detailing experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and erection practices.
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings.
- Proficiency with Tekla Structures.
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word and Outlook.
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- NISD training or certification.
- Experience detailing stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous metals.
- Knowledge of AISC standards and industry best practices.
- Experience supporting fabrication shops and field erection teams.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer.
- Occasional standing, walking, and bending when organizing files or visiting shop areas.
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs for handling drawings, documents, or small components.
- Visual acuity for reading detailed drawings and computer screens.
Environmental Conditions
- Primarily office environment with frequent computer use.
- Occasional visits to fabrication shop or job sites, which may involve exposure to: noise, dust, varying temperatures, moving machinery, and steel components.
- Must be comfortable wearing PPE (gloves, hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots) during shop or site visits.
Safety Responsibilities
- Comply with all company safety policies and OSHA regulations.
- Use appropriate PPE when entering shop or job sites.
- Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately.
- Follow safe practices when handling drawings, tools, and equipment.
- Support environmental sustainability by adhering to waste disposal and recycling guidelines.
Schedule
- Full-time position (40+ hours per week)
- Monday through Friday
- Overtime as required
- Travel required based on project needs
