Responsibilities
- Take charge of design and analysis on impactful engineering projects
- Serve as engineer-of-record and apply knowledge of the International Building Code and ASCE 7 standards
- Play a key role in mentoring junior staff while collaborating with seasoned professionals
- Lead design efforts as engineer-of-record on a variety of projects
- Mentor others on engineering design tasks
- Lead complex technical reports
- Prepare technical memorandums
- Divide complex projects into manageable tasks
- Write clear internal and external communications (emails, meeting minutes, etc.)
- Perform complex structural design tasks independently
- Independently check structural designs performed by other engineers
- Prepare structural calculations and cost estimates independently
- Create CAD markups of structural details
- Develop technical specifications and contract plans
- Assemble structural calculation books
- Oversee file management
- Break down complex projects into logical tasks
- Prioritize multiple assignments to successfully deliver all assigned projects on time and on budget
- Interact with clients in project meetings
- Resolve project issues on moderate to complex projects
- Understand scopes, schedules, and budgets
- Develop budgets and schedules for complex tasks
- Answer questions and resolve issues related to individual design tasks
- Handle discipline and termination of employees as needed
- Set goals for performance and deadlines
- Communicate information from leadership to employees and vice versa
- Monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching
- Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Operate with a high level of autonomy
- Review the work of others
- May perform some project management tasks
Requirements
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in your primary state of practice or able to obtain licensure within six months
- Structural Engineer certification preferred but not required
- Experience with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
- Advanced understanding of structural analysis software (RISA, ENERCALC, SAP2000, L-Pile, PYWall)
- Independent modeling of complex structures for vertical and lateral loads using multi-model and non-linear methods
- Strong understanding of structural engineering fundamentals
- Familiarity with governing codes for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structural design
- Experience with seismic analysis and design on Risk Category III and IV structures following ASCE-7 requirements
- Ability to prepare clear internal and external communications
- Ability to independently perform complex structural design tasks
- Expert understanding of technical writing
- Ability to divide complex projects into manageable tasks
- Ability to lead design efforts as engineer-of-record on a variety of projects
- Ability to review technical memorandums and engineering reports
- Ability to mentor others on engineering design tasks
- Ability to contribute to project proposals
- Ability to lead structural design teams (3-5 people)
- Ability to oversee team operations and workflow
- Ability to recruit and hire new employees
- Ability to implement training for new hires and identify training opportunities for current staff
- Ability to communicate information from leadership to employees and vice versa
- Ability to monitor employee productivity and provide constructive feedback and coaching

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- At least 6 years of relevant experience
- Preferred Master's or PhD in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering

Pay
Salary range: $80,000 - $120,000 annually
