About the Role

Collins Aerospace, a leader in technologically advanced and intelligent aerospace and defense solutions, is seeking a Structural MRB Engineer specializing in composite aerospace structures. This production support role operates in a manufacturing shop environment, collaborating with a multi-discipline team to address tasks related to composite component manufacture for advanced composite and metallic structures.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain customer approval for Material Review Board (MRB) authority through training and demonstrated knowledge of relevant materials, structures, and requirements.
  • Design repairs for damaged hardware using modeling tools such as Catia to restore the design intent of aerostructures components, both composite and metallic.
  • Support existing product line design activities and operational process modifications to enhance products and processes, ensuring alignment with current and future business needs.
  • Interface with customers to communicate repairs and justify engineering decisions.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues on the manufacturing floor to support production.
  • Collaborate with Materials and Process engineers to interpret specifications and advise manufacturing on relevant issues.
  • Support Quality initiatives for root cause corrective action to eliminate repetitive issues and standardize manufacturing processes.
  • Work closely with MRB engineers, structures design engineers, engineering management, operations, shop floor personnel, and external vendors.
  • Assist senior technical staff in cross-discipline technical initiatives involving design, quality, equipment, testing, and Materials & Process engineers.
  • Participate in process improvement, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
  • Engage in digital manufacturing solutions with support from digital subject matter experts.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts (stress, design, fire and safety, etc.) to obtain approvals for necessary defects and damages.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor lower-level staff to diagnose and solve problems, building team capabilities.
  • Travel up to 10%.

Requirements

  • University degree and minimum 8 years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with minimum 5 years of experience (for Engineering/Other Technical positions).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with PLM and ERP systems such as Teamcenter and SAP.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM).
  • Aerospace industry experience.
  • Experience working in manufacturing and assembly operations environments.
  • Experience with composite and metallic materials.
  • Proficiency in Catia V5.
  • Previous experience with MRB delegated authority.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $118,300 – $224,900 USD. The range reflects a good faith estimate for all experience levels. Factors considered in extending an offer include role, function, responsibilities, work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs, depending on role level and collective-bargaining agreements. Payments are not guaranteed and depend on individual, business unit, and company performance.
