Structural Field Engineer - Texas
Job Summary
In this role, you will support successful field execution on a combined cycle power generation construction project by providing contractors with the technical guidance, contract information, and direction needed to keep work moving safely, efficiently, and on schedule. You will help interpret design drawings and specifications, resolve field questions, and partner with site leadership to support quality, safety, planning, and construction progress across major power island and balance-of-plant scopes. This is a field assignment located in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance and interpretation of design drawings, specifications, and overall combined cycle project requirements to subcontractors and craft teams.
- Partner with contractors and site leadership to help resolve issues related to combined cycle design information, schedule, material deliveries, quality, and safety.
- Review, track, and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) while maintaining accurate supporting records.
- Support field execution for combined cycle systems and equipment, which may include combustion turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine generators, auxiliary equipment, piping systems, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, and balance-of-plant facilities.
- Maintain daily site logs and documentation to support project records and reporting.
- Review engineered quantities and assist the Discipline Superintendent with installed quantity reviews to support planning and progress tracking.
- Coverage with engineering, construction, quality, materials, and commissioning teams to support safe installation, turnover readiness, and resolution of field constraints on combined cycle scopes.
- Support site document control activities to help ensure teams are working from current and accurate design documents.
- Compile and maintain conformed-to-construction records, drawing markups, and related documentation in coordination with document control staff as needed.
- Assist the Field Quality Manager with inspections, test verification, and quality-related field activities.
- Promote and follow safety and quality standards appropriate to the role’s responsibilities and level of accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Structural Field Engineering experience and familiarity with combined cycle power generation construction.
- Knowledge of combustion turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbine generators, major mechanical equipment, piping, electrical systems, instrumentation and controls, and related construction interfaces.
- Experience completing material takeoffs, field estimates, or quantity reviews.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across field, subcontractor, and project teams.
Minimum Qualifications
- Physical Demands: Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move, and walk long distances in and around confined, cluttered places, and uneven areas. See and hear naturally or with correction. Full range of motion and flexibility consistent with requirements of the job duties. Requires using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls according to a set procedure. Requires repetitive movement. May require work above 5 feet in height. Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds. Work up to a 12 hour shift doing hard physical labor in varying temperature extremes and other outside conditions. Work around hazardous equipment.
- Work Environment: Typical construction site environment: Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions. Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32F degrees) temperatures and exposure to inclement weather such as dust, wind, snow, rain, etc. Requires working in extremely bright or low lighting conditions. Includes exposure to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Work around hazardous equipment. Typical office environment.
