About the role

Merrick & Company is seeking a college or graduate school Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering student for a paid summer internship for Summer 2027 at our Greenwood Village, CO, Tulsa, OK, Richmond, VA, or Chattanooga, TN office. Merrick’s Summer Internship Program offers meaningful, hands-on experience for students. Designed as a shorter-term, exploratory experience, internships allow students to apply what they’re learning in school while gaining exposure to real projects, professional collaboration, and day-to-day life at an employee-owned company. The summer internship has a commitment of approximately mid-May through mid-August 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Structural analysis using computer finite element analysis
  • Structural steel design
  • Foundation design
  • Concrete design
  • Analysis of existing structures
  • Exposure to AISC, ASCE, and ACI codes and standards
  • Exposure to drawing creation using AutoCAD or REVIT
  • Engineering quality assurance procedures
  • Collaboration with other disciplines
  • Ability to interface with clients and contractors
  • Follow schedules and budget commitments
  • Work independently
  • Possess good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to solve problems

Requirements

  • Must have graduation date after August 2027 to be eligible
  • Must be pursuing an engineering degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering from an A.B.E.T. accredited program
  • Must be currently enrolled and entering junior year or higher of an undergraduate degree, or currently enrolled in grad school
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship

Skills

  • Previous internship in Structural Engineering (desired)
  • Experience with or exposure to AutoCAD or REVIT (desired)
  • Local candidates preferred (desired)

Schedule
