About the role
The Structural Engineering I position, located in our headquarters office in downtown Chicago, plays a key role in supporting the planning, design, and analysis of structural systems for a variety of projects, including buildings, infrastructure, and other complex structures. Working under the mentorship and guidance of senior engineers, this role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple phases of structural engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Assist with structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures using hand calculations, structural analysis software, and other accepted methods
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project managers to meet project goals
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, and technical reports
- Review requests for engineering services to determine that adequate information is provided to complete service
- Review building/bridge structures and foundations for existing and proposed uses
- Review Quality Assurance (QA) and final review on structural analysis reports
- Generate required engineering reports
- Conduct site visits and assist with field inspections to verify construction compliance
- Answer structure-related inquiries from internal and external customers
- Keep abreast of new technical methods and development related to structural engineering
- Complete specialized engineering assignments requiring complex calculations
- Ensure accurate project status reporting to facilitate accurate project tracking
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil, or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
- 0-2 years of structural engineering drafting experience
- 1 year of experience drafting with AutoCAD or Revit preferred
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) certification or ability to obtain is preferred
- Knowledge including, but not limited to, the following software systems: Revit, RISA, Tedds, and ETABS
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Fundamental knowledge of structural engineering principles and building materials
- Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, etc.)
