Structural Engineer - Waterfront-Entry Level -Spring/Summer 2027

About the role

Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large, complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Raleigh office.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis, design, and detailing of concrete, steel, timber, and composite structures.
• Develop design calculations, plans, specifications, quantity take-offs, and construction cost estimates.
• Use structural analysis and modelling software to support static and dynamic structural evaluations.
• Cook up structural designs and drawings with engineers, drafters, project managers, and other disciplines.
• Absorb site visits, inspections, condition assessments, and prepare related reports.
• Support construction administration by reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and contractor submittals.
• Participate in project and client meetings while continuing to develop independent engineering judgment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with structural engineering coursework or a closely related discipline required.
• Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
• 0–2+ years of relevant structural engineering experience; internship or cooperative education experience in heavy civil, structural, marine, or waterfront design is preferred.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit, or comparable drafting platforms.
• Proficiency or working familiarity with structural analysis software such as SAP2000, STAAD, or comparable tools.
• Strong verbal, written, and presentation communication skills.
• Availability and willingness to travel occasionally for project and site needs.
