Structural Engineer - Technical Lead - Bridge and Transportation Structures
About the role
The ideal candidate will act as a Structural Design Lead on a variety of exciting, often highly visible pursuits and projects across multiple clients. The individual will have overall responsibility for all structural aspects of these projects and inter-discipline coordination of all technical issues with other discipline leads from initial design through technical support during the construction phase.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate all structural engineering technical aspects of pursuits and projects with other disciplines and in support of the Project/Design Manager.
- Ensure the structural design is completed in accordance with the contract guidelines and design documents.
- Establish structural scope, work plan and work schedule in support of the Project Manager.
- Lead all elements of conceptual, preliminary and detailed final design of new bridges and rehabilitation or reconstruction of existing bridges.
- Provide technical guidance and perform quality control reviews of design calculations, drawings and other contract documents.
- Prepare and/or guide the development of technical specifications and construction cost estimates.
- Manage groups of engineers, designers and/or specialists towards development of structural design documents and contract deliverables with minimal guidance or supervision.
- Assure conformance with contractual obligations by ensuring that design documents are reviewed and approved prior to release to the client.
- Train, mentor and develop staff and support career growth opportunities for staff.
- Support marketing coordination and proposal preparation.
- Participate in proposal interviews.
- Ensure that QA/QC procedures are being implemented and ensure the technical quality of deliverables.
- Lead responses to client’s comments on structural design elements of the deliverables.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and eight (8) years of relevant experience in transportation structures or demonstrated equivalency of education and/or experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE).
- 15+ years of related design experience.
- Willing to obtain PE License reciprocity in the jurisdiction/s of the projects.
- Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering.
- Project experience with PennDOT and/or other State DOTs.
- Proficiency with CAD and similar computer software.
- Experience with alternative delivery methods or projects with early contractor involvement.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with design software and tools.
- Experience with project management methodologies.
