About the role
The Structural Engineer III at McCormick Taylor is responsible for performing structural analysis and preparing design calculations for various transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and VDOT specifications and standards. The role involves performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects, including detailed structural calculations, developing structural drawings, preparing quantities and engineering cost estimates, providing internal quality control, assisting with construction assistance and responding to RFI's, and assisting the Manager with business development and Virginia region project growth.
Responsibilities
- Performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects
- Perform detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
- Develop structural drawings, construction details and geometry layouts
- Prepare quantities and engineering cost estimates
- Provide internal quality control to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability
- Provide construction assistance and respond to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary
- Aid in business development and Virginia region project growth
Requirements
- Minimum 6 years of structural engineering experience on transportation projects for VDOT and local Virginia agencies
- B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure required
- Experience in all aspects of bridge design and bridge rehabilitation
- Experience in load rating
- Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software
- Thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and VDOT design and construction standards and specifications
- Bridge inspection experience and NBIS Team Leader qualifications a plus
- Proficient with MicroStation
- OpenRoads and OpenBridge experience beneficial
- Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic design beneficial
