About the Role

The Structural Project Engineer participates in the design and detail engineering efforts to support the construction of aluminum and steel vessels. This role applies established engineering principles and shipbuilding standards to develop structural designs, resolve technical issues, and support fabrication and installation activities. The Structural Engineer II collaborates with production, planning, quality, and program management to ensure designs are safe, compliant, and executable within shipyard constraints.

Responsibilities

• Design vessel structures that meet specification requirements, creating models, drawings, and detailed bills of materials.
• Loft and nest all vessel parts for CNC cutting.
• Perform structural analysis and design for marine fabrication and shipyard projects.
• Develop and review structural drawings, calculations, and technical documentation.
• Comply with Vigor drawing release processes and procedures.
• Support estimators during preliminary project stages and production personnel during construction.
• Participate in sea trials of completed vessels.
• Maintain engineering block library and structural standards documents.
• Support weight, stability, and structural integration assessments and reporting.
• Resolve structural engineering issues during fabrication, installation, and repair activities.
• Evaluate and disposition non-conformances, repairs, and deviations related to structural work.
• Coordinate with planners, weld engineers, and production leads to ensure designs are executable.
• Ensure compliance with applicable rules, codes, and standards (ABS, USCG, NAVSEA, AISC, etc.).
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a production shipyard environment.
• May supervise and mentor a team of up to two engineers and designers or provide oversight on engineering subcontractors.

Requirements

• BS in an engineering discipline or equivalent; Bachelor’s in Naval Architecture/Marine Engineering preferred.
• Five (5) years of marine experience required; experience in vessel design and construction preferred.
• Familiarity with American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) standards and Ship Constructor experience preferred.
• Experience with CFR, Classing Society rules, ABYC, IEEE, and military contracts is preferred.
• Very strong computer skills and experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Rhino, and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Detail-oriented with the ability to work with tight specifications.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to interpret complex documents.
• Good working knowledge of design spiral, vessel arrangements, structural, electrical, mechanical, and outfit details.
• Highly organized with excellent documentation and communication skills.
• US citizenship required due to government contract.

Pay

$112,000 – $122,000 annual salary range.
