Structural Engineer - Bridges

About the role
We are seeking a Structural Engineer - Bridges to report to a Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently, and experience directing junior engineers and drafters. This role requires a professional attitude, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
Responsibilities
- Create designs and analyze the structural integrity of highway bridges and related infrastructure
- Perform structural calculations and develop detailed construction drawings for transportation structures
- Inspect bridges and transportation-related structures to assess their condition and compliance with safety standards
- Evaluate and prepare load ratings to assess the capacity of existing bridges and structures
- Develop plans, specifications, and contract documents for transportation projects
- Write specifications defining materials, workmanship, and quality standards for transportation structures
- Prepare quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and detailed inspection reports
Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college is preferred but not required
- PE License, preferably in the states of New York and/or New Jersey
- Minimum of 8 years prior experience designing bridges and preparing construction plans for highway structures and other transportation-related structures
- Thorough knowledge of AASHTO bridge design specifications and their application to design projects
- Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation is preferred but not required
- Computer literacy with experience using MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.) and engineering design software

Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer and reviewing engineering plans
- Prolonged use of a computer, CAD/BIM software, and standard office equipment
- Close visual attention to detail for reviewing drawings, specifications, and reports
- Effective communication in person, by phone, and via video conferencing
- Occasional travel to project sites, client meetings, and design coordination meetings
- Ability to walk active construction sites, climb stairs, and navigate uneven terrain during inspections
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety vest, safety glasses, and work boots
- Occasionally lift and carry drawings, plans, and field equipment up to 25 lbs
- Work in both office and outdoor environments, including exposure to varying weather conditions

Pay
$110,000 – $140,000 annually
