Structural Engineer – Bridge/Transportation

VHB is growing its Southeastern region and is in search of a Structural Engineer to join our Orlando or Tampa, FL team. In this role, you will serve in a technical capacity planning, analyzing, designing, and detailing bridge and other transportation-related structural projects—from highway to pedestrian to rail—while mentoring our structural team. The ideal candidate should possess a “can-do” attitude, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and fun environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform structural modeling, design, and oversight for bridge and other transportation infrastructure projects
- Prepare construction documents, including plans, specifications, estimates, and calculation packages
- Provide technical support and mentorship to structural engineering staff
- Perform quality assurance reviews of project construction documents, engineering reports, and related materials
- Assist in preparation of qualification packages, proposals, and/or contracts involving technical approach, costs, and scheduling
- Provide project management support
- Review fabrication drawings and conduct construction plan reviews
Requirements
- 3–5 years of structural bridge design experience (LRFD)
- B.S. in Civil Engineering required; emphasis in Structures preferred
- EIT certification required; PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months preferred
- Project experience with FDOT preferred
- Experience completing engineering studies, design reports, compiling contract documents, and developing contract plans in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures (AASHTO, FDOT, local municipalities/counties, and other state DOTs)
- Strong familiarity with structural engineering software (e.g., Mathcad, AASHTOWare, FB-MultiPier, Midas Civil, ATLAS, STAAD Pro, LARSA 4D, MDX, SP Column, MerlinDASH, FDOT Structures Design Programs)
- Model-based design experience is a strong plus (Bentley OpenBridge and OpenRoads, AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit/Infraworks/Inventor)
