About the role
The Structural Engineer III at McCormick Taylor is responsible for performing structural analysis and preparing design calculations for various transportation structures in accordance with AASHTO LRFD and DOT specifications and standards. They will also work with and mentor younger staff.
Responsibilities
- Performing complex structural planning analysis and design for all structural aspects of transportation projects
- Performing detailed structural calculations in support of design and rehabilitation for bridges, culverts, and retaining walls
- Developing structural drawings, construction details and geometry layouts
- Preparing quantities and engineering cost estimates
- Providing internal quality control to ensure technical accuracy, conformance to project requirements, and overall constructability
- Providing construction assistance and responding to Requests for Information (RFI’s) as necessary
- Mentoring junior staff and coordinating structural work with project disciplines
- Working in a hybrid in-office/work-from-home environment, with some field work and travel required
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of structural engineering experience on transportation projects
- A B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering
- A Professional Engineer (P.E.) Licensure required
- Experience in all aspects of bridge design and bridge rehabilitation
- Experience in load rating
- Experience using structural analysis programs and bridge design software including a thorough knowledge of AASHTO LRFD and DOT design and construction specifications/standards
- Proficiency with MicroStation
- Experience with OpenRoads and OpenBridge is beneficial
- Experience with CSI Bridge is beneficial
- Experience with hydraulic and hydrologic design is beneficial
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Able to independently manage project tasks
