Our work covers most commercial building types, including multi-family, office, retail, industrial, mixed use, and hotel/hospitality.We are currently accepting applications for an Structural Engineer at an Associate level to join our team in Southern California (Huntington Beach or Pasadena). Our expected starting annual salary range is $120,000 -$135,000, plus discretionary bonuses. This role is on a hybrid schedule with 2 days in the office each week, local and regional travel to sites as needed, and work from home. Position Description Act as technical team member and small project lead for our clients' commercial structures. Our work covers most commercial building types, including multifamily, office, retail, industrial, and hotel/hospitality.Collaborate with clients, internal team, consultants, and site contact, and be responsible for overall understanding of the client's project(s)Review and assess existing building construction and conditionReview and analyze construction documents including structural calculations, drawings, and specificationsPerform seismic risk and property condition assessmentsPrepare and present detailed formal reportsPerform structural analysis and create details for small-scale structural repairs and seismic retrofit projectsAssist with forensic structural investigations by analysis of defects, failure, and collapse, investigate causation, timing, damage assessment, repairability, and code compliance Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in civil/structural engineeringLicensed as a professional engineer (PE) in the state of CaliforniaMinimum five (5) years of industry-related experience at a structural engineering consulting firmTechnical level of understanding of building types and lateral load-resisting systemsUnderstanding of hazardous structural features and site seismic hazardsAdequate understanding of building materials, construction processes and methodsAbility to perform services of the organization independently and with limited supervisionAbility to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environmentDemonstrated leadership and project management successesAbility to communicate in a professional manner, remain organized, and multitaskDecision-making and problem-solving experience in a technical roleProficiency in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, particularly Word and ExcelCurrent knowledge of building codes including CBC, ASCE-7, ACI, and AISC Preferred Qualifications, Skills and Experience Master's degree in structural/seismic engineeringLicensed as a professional engineer (PE) in other states or ability to obtain the license in other statesLicensed as Structural Engineer (SE) in the state of CaliforniaCurrent knowledge of ASTM E2557, ASTM E2026, ASCE-41, and FEMA P-154Proficiency in RISA-3D, Enercalc, and other structural analysis softwareFamiliarity with Quire, Plan Grid, BOX, AutoCAD, and RevitExperience with structural repair and seismic retrofit design Physical RequirementsCandidates should have the ability to:Operate a computer (keyboarding) and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier/scanner/printerUse visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screensMove through construction and existing building sites over rough terrainSee and respond to dangerous situationsRespond quickly to soundsAscend and descend ladders and stairsMove safely through confined spaces and narrow pathsWork in outdoor weather conditions or unconditioned areasTravel approximately 20-30% of the time both locally and regionally BenefitsMarx Okubo is a privately held Employee Stock Ownership Plan firm; employee-owned, we offer internal growth, continuing education, mentor/mentee opportunities, as well as 100% paid health insurance premiums for employee, up to a 30% match on your 401(k) contributions, and competitive compensation.
