About the role
HED is seeking a seasoned Structural Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will bring 4-8 years of experience in structural design, particularly in California School (DSA) and Healthcare (HCAI) projects. They should be excited to contribute to HED's mission of creating a positive impact through design.
Responsibilities
- Lead structural design and documentation for projects of moderate to large complexity
- Conduct structural analysis and design using tools like RAM, RISA, ETABS, and Enercalc
- Create and oversee detailed engineering drawings, specifications, calculations, and reports
- Serve as a technical resource, assisting in design direction, solving engineering challenges, and delivering integrated solutions
- Closely coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, and civil consultants to ensure consistent and complete design across disciplines
- Participate in and sometimes lead design meetings, client presentations, and internal coordination sessions
- Perform construction administration duties including site visits, RFI and submittal responses, and field reports
- Research and implement applicable codes, regulations, and standards to ensure structural compliance and safety
- Support quality assurance and quality control efforts, reviewing documentation prepared by junior team members
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, designers, and interns in design processes, tools, and career development
- Engage in HED’s DWP process by tracking time, delegating tasks, and managing junior staff workload
- Perform other ad hoc duties as assigned by the Discipline Leader or project lead
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering or a related field from an ABET/EAC accredited institution
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California required
- 4-8 years of structural engineering experience in a professional setting
- Proficiency in Revit (core) preferred
- Proficiency in structural analysis tools such as RAM, RISA, ETABS, Enercalc or similar required
- Thorough knowledge of applicable codes and standards (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, NDS/SDPWS, TMS)
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and collaboration skills
- Clear communication abilities for working with internal teams, consultants, and clients
- Demonstrated leadership in delivering coordinated and technically sound structural solutions
Qualifications
- Physical requirements include prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer, effective communication in writing and verbally, and visual acuity to perform responsibilities
- The office environment is a professional, open-space environment for collaborative and independent work
