About the role
Boston Government Services (BGS) is seeking a Structural Engineer to support our client at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Y12 National Security Complex plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise, providing manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent and manage weapons of mass destruction.
Responsibilities
- Develop high quality detailed design packages
- Provide engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs
- Provide expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant facilities
- Perform building evaluations and modifications, seismic analyses and rehab
- Oversight of outside engineering firms, steel and concrete design, and machine installations
- Develop detailed project scope, design time-lines, functions and requirements, design basis and criteria, design scheduled and tracking, project engineering budget, calculations, drawing generation, research, design review, inter-discipline design coordination, design approval, design change control, specifications, approval of contractor technical and material submittals and field verification of construction compliance to design
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited school with a minimum of 10 years' experience (with emphasis on Structural Engineering)
- An active professional engineering (PE) license is preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees
- Willingness to work in a production environment
- A U.S. citizen
- Eligible to obtain and maintain a security or clearance badge
Qualifications
- Must possess technical expertise and wide applicating of technical principles, theories, and concepts in the field of Structural Engineering
- Must be proficient with developing structural drawings (plans, sections and details) for various materials of construction (steel, concrete, cold-formed steel), structural calculations, equipment anchorage, report preparation, drafting (or oversight of drafting), and preparation of construction specifications (generally in the form of general notes on the drawings)
- Must be familiar with consensus design codes. CAD drafting experience not required but preferred, along with any 3D modeling experience. Structural modeling experience with STAAD.Pro is also preferred
