Structural Engineer

What You Will Be Responsible For

• Designing foundations and creating permit and construction documents for each home project.
• Addressing manufacturing and field RFIs for each home project.
• Managing up to 10 projects concurrently.
• Contributing to scaling our processes efficiently.
• Playing a crucial role in expanding our home product line by designing various components of our home, including light-frame wood modules and architectural steel elements.
• Working with our remote design team.
• Making frequent visits to our project sites in the Bay Area (Mountain View, Menlo Park, and San Jose).
• Occasional visits to our Sacramento manufacturing facility.

What You’ll Do

• Develop a deep understanding of all aspects of the product, including design for manufacturing, transportation, and assembly.
• Create structural engineering tools, systems, and processes to expedite the design and documentation process.
• Build strong, collaborative relationships with Field, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Design teams.

• Have strong technical expertise and can use experience to creatively solve unconventional engineering challenges.
• Be highly detailed and can visualize how all the pieces of a building go together.
• Be a team player who is willing to roll up their sleeves and help others to meet the team’s goals.
• Have the ability to work cross-functionally with teams such as engineering, design, manufacturing, and site operations to successfully manage projects from strategy through to execution.
• Have a passion for continuous improvement and want to make buildings better for the people who build them and use them.

Skills & Qualifications

• A licensed Civil PE in California.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in designing light-framed wood systems, architectural steel components such as stairs and canopies, and foundations.
• Ability to apply your expertise in novel ways, exploring new approaches and pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
• Experience with BIM systems such as Revit.
• Experience creating tools and processes for an engineering group.
