Structural Engineer, Assistant Team Leader

Responsibilities

  • Bridge, tunnel, and ancillary/traffic safety inspections and load ratings
  • Preparing scheduling, writing inspection reports, assuring QA/QC, and assist with project coordination
  • Performing engineering tasks related to bridge design projects and other transportation-related structural design and analysis projects
  • Designing steel, concrete, and/or timber bridge elements, walls, and associated structures
  • Conducting structural analyses, developing calculations, and preparing plans in accordance with federal, state, and local agency requirements
  • Preparation of quantities, cost estimates, and special provisions
  • Occasional site visits and structure inspections
  • Managing and maintaining project and QA/QC documentation
  • Aiding project managers with schedule and budget updates and proposal preparation

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related degree
  • 1+ years of experience in bridge inspection or design, methods, and procedures
  • Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) designation preferred
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) designation or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred
  • Experience with SCDOT projects preferred
  • Bridge Design/Rehabilitation and Bridge Load Rating experience preferred
  • NHI Inspection and Maintenance of Ancillary Highway Structures, FCM, tunnel inspection NHI courses, railroad, and/or safety training a plus
  • Completion of an NHI two (2) week Bridge Inspector’s Training Certificate and/or Refresher course within the past 5 years preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • A self-starter with the ability to work with project teams and manage multiple and concurrent tasks/assignments
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage the inspection duties in the field
  • Data-driven and detail-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Considerable knowledge of Architecture, Engineering, Construction inspection process and procedures
  • Ability to meet deadlines and complete work in a timely manner
  • Ability and willingness to travel to work sites

About the Role

BSCE, safety inspection experience is preferred. Responsibilities include leading evaluations and load rating, assisting the design team on new projects, and performing various engineering tasks related to bridge design and construction. Skills required include strong organizational abilities, data-driven thinking, and excellent communication skills.
