About the role
Crane Operator – Structural
Responsibilities
- Operate lattice boom crawler, hydraulic swing cab, tower crane, skid steer, forklift, excavator, and helical installation equipment as the project requires.
- Manipulate crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions.
- Place blocks and outriggers to prevent capsizing when lifting heavy loads.
- Bolt boom sections together to extend or modify the boom for lifting functions.
- Inspect the crane daily for safety issues and identify malfunctions before they become problems.
- Lead all crane and lifting safety on the job.
- Build the trust that lets the crew work confidently around your machine.
- Step in on the deck when not in the cab - welding, decking, material layout, and rigging alongside the ironworkers.
- Read plans, specifications, and shop drawings to support accurate erection.
Requirements
- Five years of heavy equipment or crane operation experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- NCCCO certification, or the ability to earn it.
- Experience erecting steel and precast structures preferred.
- Working knowledge of equipment maintenance and a habit of catching issues early.
- Comfort operating in varying weather conditions and at heights.
- Valid driver's license. Class A CDL preferred for moving the crane and equipment between job sites.
- AWS 1.1 (3G, 4G ¾”) welding certification on the SMAW process is a plus.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Move about on foot consistently across job sites with unfinished and uneven surfaces.
- Work at heights and in outdoor weather conditions year-round.
- Inspect details at close range and communicate accurately on the deck.
- Lift and transfer materials from ground to overhead consistently; move material up to 50 lbs. frequently.
