About the role

Doing Steel is seeking Overhead Steel Crane Operators to join our dynamic team. You will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining overhead cranes to lift, move, and position heavy structural steel elements and materials.

Job Duties

  • Operating Cranes: Precisely operate overhead cranes to lift, move, and position heavy structural steel elements and materials across the production site.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to OSHA, ASME B30, and company safety procedures; conduct pre-shift and post-shift inspections of crane components (hoist, trolley, bridge, hook, cables, limit switches, controls, safety devices).
  • Load Handling: Interpret load charts, rigging plans, and blueprints; select and inspect rigging gear to ensure rated capacity and compatibility.
  • Cordination: Communicate clearly with riggers, signal persons, and ground crew to coordinate lifts and ensure safe positioning.
  • Maintenance & Inspections: Perform daily inspections, report malfunctions or hazards, and assist with minor repairs or adjustments.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate logs of crane operations, loads handled, and maintenance activities.

Qualifications

  • Certification: Valid overhead crane operator certification (e.g., OSHA 10 or 30)
  • Experience: Minimum 1–2 years operating overhead cranes in industrial or construction settings
  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of rigging techniques, load handling, and crane mechanics
  • Physical Ability: Ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights, and operate in noisy, high-machinery environments
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, communication, and teamwork
  • Able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Knowledge of workplace safety regulations including OSHA standards and industry best practices

Additional Information

  • Schedule: 10-hour shift, Day shift or 2nd shift, Monday to Friday
  • Work Environment: Exposure to dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures. Machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.
  • Physical Demands: Regularly walk, stand, use hands and fingers, handle, grasp or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Additional effort requires lifting, pushing and pulling material, stairs, and ladders. Moving heavy material greater than 50 pounds may require assistance.
