Responsibilities

  • Prepare design calculations, plans, CAD drafting, and construction cost estimates
  • Assist the project manager to develop special provisions and specifications for DOT and Municipal clients
  • Review Contractor submittals and prepare responses to requests for information under the guidance of a more senior engineer
  • Evaluate existing structures and develop load ratings
  • Prepare engineering reports and technical studies, and assist on other projects, as needed, including participation in roadway and site civil design activities
  • Perform inspection of bridges at various levels and prepare inspection reports

Requirements

  • 3+ years of bridge inspection experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with structural emphasis
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights using various bridge inspection access equipment

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering is preferred
  • Professional Engineering license, or ability to obtain within 1 year is highly preferred
  • Experience with AASHTO Bridge Design Specifications is preferred
  • Experience with MDOT SHA, MDTA, and VDOT design criteria and requirements is preferred
  • A working knowledge of MicroStation or AutoCAD is preferred
  • Bridge load rating experience preferred
  • Understanding of national and state bridge inspection methods, evaluations, and report preparation is required
  • Successful Completion of FHWA/NHI Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges training course is preferred
