About the role

The Stroke Program Coordinator provides professional, clinical nursing, and technical knowledge, skills, and expertise for the development and continuous improvement of comprehensive stroke patient care. They also research, develop, and apply evidence-based practice in clinical care, patient and staff education, and the development and adherence of policies, procedures and treatment protocols, and overall plan of care. This role oversees data management, analysis, and reporting to identify patterns of care, benchmarked best practices, and opportunities for improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical expertise to evaluate stroke patients, stroke protocol/processes, and associated data collection systems to support effective patient care delivery.
  • Collaborates with healthcare staff to identify and diagnose patient care problems, implement approaches to these problems, and evaluate the effectiveness of the interventions.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of an educational program designed to convey specialized knowledge and skills to the healthcare staff, patients, families, and the community.
  • Coordinates Stroke Center Program goals using a multidisciplinary approach.
  • Actively identifies, plans, and participates in research related to stroke patients.

Requirements

  • Required - Bachelor's Degree Nursing
  • PREFERRED - Master's Degree Nursing
  • Required - General nursing or clinical practice 5-7 years
  • PREFERRED - Stroke patients 1-3 years
  • Required - BASIC LIFE SUPPORT - American Heart Association
  • Required - Registered Nurse Tennessee - Tennessee Board of Nursing
  • Preferred - Neurovascular Registered Nurse - Board Certified - Neurovascular Clinicians Certification Corporation
  • Preferred - Registered Nurse Mississippi - Mississippi Board of Nursing
  • Preferred - Stroke Certified Registered Nurse - Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification
  • Preferred - Registered Nurse Arkansas - Arkansas State Board of Nursing
  • Preferred - Stroke Certified Registered Nurse - American Board of Neuroscience Nursing
  • Preferred - Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse - American Board of Neuroscience Nursing

Qualifications

  • Progressive knowledge in Stroke care methods including data and outcomes management gained through independent clinical decision making skills.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and nonverbal communication from patients with diverse states of development (adult, geriatric).
  • Ability to coordinate and organize work.
  • Teaching skills and ability to develop/mentor others.
  • Ability in public speaking.
  • Applied knowledge utilizing tools/methods to perform clinical research and analysis in support of clinical quality Improvement activities.
  • Ability to review and summarize data observations and findings, present the findings in a clear and concise way, and assist with decisions related to performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to establish collaborative working relationships with patients, coworkers and community.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and database programs.
