About the role

Stripe builds financial infrastructure that ambitious companies use to launch their boldest products. Our customers range from hours-old startups to complex global businesses, collectively growing the GDP of the internet. Businesses on Stripe generated $1.4 trillion in total payment volume in 2024, up 38% from the prior year, reaching a scale equivalent to around 1.3% of global GDP.

We focus on the details of everything we do, so businesses around the world can focus on what’s most important to them. Stripes enable companies like Ford, Le Monde, and global supply chains to concentrate on their core missions rather than reinventing financial systems.

Challenges

  • We are still in the early stages of our growth, with many of our biggest challenges ahead. We must be extremely selective about projects due to limited resources, prioritizing impactful work like supporting 50+ payment methods, accelerating startup growth, and addressing climate change.
  • The technology stack that got us here won’t scale to our future needs. We constantly retool to keep over 8,000 Stripes productive, maintain resilience, and deliver category-leading products at unprecedented payment volumes.
  • Every project exposes us to challenges beyond our current capabilities. We seek people with diverse knowledge and experiences to tackle hard problems quickly. Stripe is not a "pay-your-dues" culture—you’ll receive rapid training and substantial responsibility.
  • We balance speed with meticulousness, building quickly for fast-growing startups while ensuring reliability for decades. This requires intense focus alongside sustainable, fulfilling careers.

Experience

Successful Stripes are rigorous thinkers who embrace complexity and uncertainty. We value people who:

  • Are not afraid to be wrong and can enthusiastically support proposals they initially opposed.
  • Back decisions with data and narrative, avoiding timidity or recklessness.
  • Bring fresh perspectives—most Stripes don’t have a background in finance but thrive by applying generalist or specialist expertise.
  • Can parachute into new domains, learn quickly, and execute competently outside their formal remit.

We foster kindness and measured risk-taking, even without consensus. High-conflict work environments are not a fit for our culture.

Worldview

Stripe is a global team, not bound by geography. We operate from offices in 25+ cities—including Amsterdam, Bangalore, Dublin, Singapore, and São Paulo—and remote locations worldwide. Our customers and families speak over 30 languages.

  • Where we are: Over 8,000 Stripes build products and support users from offices and homes across the globe.
  • Where we need to be: We aim to make internet payments as ubiquitous as email, requiring respectful dialogue with governments, cultural adaptation, and local product relevance.
  • Where we’re improving: We continuously evolve our culture to meet the needs of a growing organization, listening to employees through initiatives like StripeSat to enhance team connection, mission alignment, and remote enablement.

Community

We support Stripes to do their best work through:

  • Training and mentorship: Two weeks of in-depth onboarding, pairing with experienced team members, and hands-on classes (e.g., "Learning to Code," "Thinking Like a Lawyer").
  • Heterogenous perspectives: Stripes come from diverse backgrounds—engineering, design, operations, consulting, government, finance, healthcare, and education. We value humility and transparency, fostering mutual learning.
  • Ownership and impact: You’ll work on high-impact projects, from global payments to browser animations, with the autonomy to build and polish exceptional products.

Examples of Stripes’ diverse backgrounds:

  • Q Kuhns (Internal Communications): Former forensic anthropology lab head.
  • Sarah Heck (New Markets): Previously led entrepreneurship policy for the U.S. National Security Council.
  • Alia Gurtov (Deployment Strategist): Paleoanthropologist who discovered a new hominin species.
  • Joe Moon (Dashboard Platform): U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq.
  • Jaclyn Schoof (Payments Infrastructure): Former crisis intervention worker for teenage girls.
  • David Edelson (Technical Operations): Built a point-of-sale system for an NYC bookstore chain.
