About the role
The Strength & Conditioning Specialist supports the Air National Guard (ANG) Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and Air Force Special Warfare (AFSPECWAR) community by working side-by-side with elite tactical athletes. The role integrates physical therapy and strength and conditioning to reduce injury risk, accelerate recovery, and extend career longevity.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and teach a cohesive, comprehensive strength and conditioning program for TACP personnel across a wide range of ability levels.
- Provide an initial performance evaluation within one week of a member's request; complete a needs analysis identifying deficits, goals, and risk factors; and build a tailored program spanning rehabilitation, performance training, strength and conditioning, and rehabilitation.
- Deliver individualized training programs no later than 14 calendar days after evaluation, created alongside the Physical Therapist where applicable, with a focus on long-term, holistic health — including nutrition and recovery (rest, sleep, and mobilization).
- Screen for factors affecting performance and readiness — flexibility and mobility, muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular fitness, and body composition — to inform programming.
- Implement neck and spine strengthening protocols designed to enhance physical capacity and durability for TACP operators.
- Meet individually with each operator at least semiannually to assess fitness and review goals; document outcomes and report trends to unit leadership.
- Build rapport, motivate operators, and deliver briefings, educational sessions, and seminars on health, fitness, and physical performance.
- Employ modern, evidence-based best practices and validated functional assessments, including approved third-party fitness and nutrition technologies.
- Advise unit commanders on strength and conditioning matters; develop SOPs and identify program improvements. Assist with conditioning-equipment inventory and supply recommendations.
- Maintain credentials and continuing education; document encounters in mandated Government systems in compliance with HIPAA and the Privacy Act.
Requirements
- Master's degree or higher in Human Performance, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of full-time experience as a Strength & Conditioning Specialist in collegiate (or higher), professional, or tactical athletics; the aerospace industry; test pilot/astronaut support; or a similar man-machine, high-performance environment.
- NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) OR CSCCa Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified (SCCC), plus current basic CPR certification including AED training.
- All work is performed at an unclassified level. A favorable Tier 1 security investigation is required.
- US Citizenship required.
