Strength and Conditioning Coach

About the Role
The Strength and Conditioning Coach reports to the Athletic Director and works collaboratively with head coaches, the athletic trainer, and school administration. This individual is responsible for developing and overseeing comprehensive strength, speed, agility, and conditioning programs to maximize athlete performance and minimize injury risk across all sports programs while embracing the school's Mercy Core Values.
Responsibilities
Program Design & Implementation
- Design, implement, and oversee sport-specific and general strength and conditioning programs for all athletic teams
- Develop periodized annual training plans aligned with sport seasons, including off-season, pre-season, in-season, and post-season phases
- Conduct individual athlete assessments to identify strengths, weaknesses, and development opportunities
- Instruct athletes in proper lifting mechanics, movement patterns, and training techniques with emphasis on safety
- Collaborate with head coaches to align conditioning programs with team-specific performance goals
Facility Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operation, cleanliness, and safety of the weight room and training facilities
- Maintain and inspect all strength and conditioning equipment; coordinate repairs and replacements as needed
- Enforce weight room policies and procedures, ensuring a safe and disciplined training environment
- Maintain training logs, athlete performance data, and program documentation
Athlete Health & Injury Prevention
- Work closely with the certified athletic trainer to develop injury prevention and return-to-play programs
- Educate student-athletes on nutrition, recovery, hydration, and sleep as components of athletic performance
- Monitor athlete workload and fatigue to prevent overtraining and reduce injury risk
- Promote a culture of holistic wellness consistent with Notre Dame's commitment to the whole student
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Science, or closely related field
- Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, or equivalent certification (SCCC, USAW, etc.)
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification
- Minimum 2 years of experience coaching strength and conditioning at the high school, collegiate, or professional level
- Ability to work early mornings, after school, evenings, and weekends as athletic schedules require
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field
- Experience working with multi-sport high school athletic programs
- Knowledge of and alignment with the Mercy Core Values
