Job Summary

Duties And Responsibilities

Provides street, alley, and right of way maintenance, cleaning and repair tasks including but not limited to hot and cold asphalt repairs, curb and gutter repair, mixed granite hole patching, drainage ditch and catch basin cleaning and repair, and the placement of pipe for drainage and irrigation.

Mixes, pours, and spreads concrete, asphalt, sand, and gravel.

Operates a variety of automotive and motorized equipment and tools associated with department work activities, such as air compressor, automated refuse truck, backhoe, chain saw, wood chipper, concrete cutter, dump truck, forklift, end loader, generator, jackhammer, lawn mower, nine-wheel and steel roller, road grader, street sweeper, tamper, tractor, trencher, and a variety of handheld tools.

Picks up, transports to landfill, and unloads solid waste, such as garbage, trash, and brush with the use of sanitation collection vehicles/equipment.

Performs routine maintenance and servicing of Town vehicles/equipment to ensure good working conditions. Reports all equipment issues to direct supervisor in a timely manner.

Assists water and sewer operations with general maintenance duties as required.

Performs all other related duties, as assigned.

Education And Experience

High school diploma or GED plus six (6) months to one (1) year work experience as a general laborer, construction, landscaping, or related work involving the operation of motorized equipment.

Required Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have and maintain a valid Arizona Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with tanker endorsement; or be able to obtain within one (1) year from date of hire.

Ability to work schedule required to fulfill duties of position.

Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures.

May be called upon to assist with divisions of Public Works including but not limited to water, wastewater, streets, cemetery, and facility maintenance.

Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of methods and equipment for solid waste collection and transportation.

Basic knowledge of the geographical layout of the Town of Florence.

Ability to operate hand-held power tools and light to heavy type equipment.

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safe work practices.

Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend basic instructions, Town codes and written correspondence.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits effective communications and discern emergency/alarm systems.

The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee may be required to occasionally carry, push/pull objects and materials up to 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities required by this job includes close vision, ability to adjust focus, and manual dexterity in combination with eye/hand coordination.

The employee is exposed to climatic outdoor weather conditions.

Work near moving mechanical parts.

Work in high, precarious places.

Exposed to fumes and/or chemicals, and airborne particles.

The noise level is usually moderate.

Town has multiple work sites and individual will be required to drive between these work sites.

Sufficient body flexibility, mobility, stamina and balance, manual dexterity, and physical reflexes to permit employee to perform job responsibilities and operate a variety of power and hand tools safely.
