Description Of Duties And Responsibilities
- Counsels individuals in need of addictions medication services on the streets.
- Establishes a respectful, trusting relationship with program participants.
- Affirms participants' strengths and assists in building on them.
- Identifies and addresses participants' basic needs.
- Provides referrals for medication-assisted treatment of substance use disorders.
- Offers guidance and resources to help participants access healthcare, behavioral healthcare, public assistance, housing, nutritional assistance, and health insurance.
- Trains program participants and distributes medication for opioid overdose reversal.
- Distributes harm reduction supplies such as wound care kits, safer sex kits, sharps disposal kits, and medication disposal kits.
- Escorts participants to clinics for assessments and same-day medication initiation.
- Aids patients in obtaining medication.
- Facilitates transitions between service providers.
- Serves as an advocate for program participants with professional staff and network service providers.
- Participates in team meetings and service planning conferences.
- Documents the delivery of services in case records.
- Attends in-service training according to program requirements.
Qualifications For Position
- New York State Certified Recovery Peer Advocate or Provisional CRPA preferred.
- CARC preferred.
- Lived experience in recovery from substance use disorder.
- At least two years of direct care work experience with individuals at risk for, or with, a substance use disorder.
Skills And Knowledge Required
- Effective communication skills; recognizes and uses person-centered language.
- Recognizes that there are multiple pathways to recovery/wellness.
- Practices a strengths-based approach to recovery/wellness.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Ability to engage active substance users and their families.
