About the role
Under direct to general supervision, this position performs strenuous unskilled or semi-skilled labor of routine difficulty, including semi-skilled street maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Work on crew performing general street maintenance
- Operate hand and power tools such as shovels, rakes, jack hammers, dirt compactors, and other tools to maintain asphalt, brick, gravel, and concrete streets and surfaces
- Perform work associated with snow/ice removal, working variable hours on an on-call basis
- Clean catch basins and act as flag person
- Operate equipment and tools including backhoe, loader, skid steer, roller, crack sealing equipment, street sweeper, and motor grader
- Perform minor repairs and adjustments on equipment
- Perform minor carpentry
- Attend monthly safety meetings
- Assist other team members with tasks
- Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required
- Abide by all standards, conduct, and policies as stated in the Employee Handbook
Physical Requirements
- Perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, twisting, squatting, reaching overhead, grasping, lifting, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, and handling objects
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds
- Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds with assistance
- On feet most of the shift
- Normal eyesight and depth perception, with or without correction
- Hear normal tones, with or without correction
Skills
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees and the public
- Ability to work under supervision and cooperatively with other employees
- Ability to listen, understand, and communicate information
- Basic understanding of math
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility in work environments and perform a variety of frequently changing tasks
