Strategic Sourcing & Purchasing Manager

Primary Responsibilities

  • Identify, evaluate, and qualify new domestic and international suppliers.
  • Develop competitive sourcing strategies for raw materials, packaging, finished goods, indirect spend, and services.
  • Lead RFQs, RFPs, and supplier negotiations.
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, contracts, rebates, and service agreements.
  • Reduce overall procurement costs while maintaining or improving quality and service.
  • Analyze company-wide purchasing spend to identify consolidation opportunities.
  • Standardize vendors across business units whenever practical.
  • Improve supplier performance through scorecards and regular business reviews.
  • Manage supplier relationships and resolve supply issues.
  • Support inventory optimization and purchasing planning.
  • Build purchasing policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Develop standard operating procedures for purchasing activities.
  • Create reporting and KPI dashboards measuring savings, supplier performance, purchasing cycle times, and contract compliance.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Finance, Product Development, and Sales.
  • Design the future purchasing organization.
  • Recruit, train, and manage buyers as the department expands.
  • Establish purchasing workflows and approval processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement throughout the procurement function.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years of purchasing, procurement, or strategic sourcing experience.
  • Demonstrated success negotiating supplier contracts and reducing costs.
  • Experience sourcing new vendors and qualifying suppliers.
  • Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
  • Experience managing multiple product categories simultaneously.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience working with ERP systems.

Success Measures

  • Deliver measurable cost savings across key spend categories within the first 12 months.
  • Consolidate suppliers where appropriate within the first 12 months.
  • Improve supplier quality and delivery performance within the first 12 months.
  • Establish standardized purchasing processes within the first 12 months.
  • Create purchasing KPIs and reporting within the first 12 months.
  • Create the foundation for a scalable purchasing department within the first 12 months.
  • Recruit and lead additional purchasing personnel as business needs grow.

Location

  • Preferred: Los Angeles area (hybrid or on-site)
  • Remote candidates with significant strategic sourcing experience will also be considered.
