Strategic Initiatives Graduate Intern - Health Department

About the role

The Pima County Health Department seeks a skilled Public Health Program Intern to support the implementation of the strategic plan and workforce development efforts. This grant-funded position runs until October 29, 2027, and requires part-time hours (20–30 hours per week).

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and monitoring of the department’s strategic plan, tracking progress, and preparing reports and presentations.
• Support department-wide performance improvement and ensure compliance with public health accreditation standards.
• Enhance the department’s learning environment by assessing employee desk procedures and supporting employee growth through training programs aligned with national public health standards.

Requirements

• Enrolled in a graduate degree program in Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, or related fields.
• Bachelor's degree from a four-year institution.
• Experience facilitating group meetings, focus groups, community forums, and working in multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural, and multi-sectoral partnerships.
• Experience in leading/facilitating strategic planning in non-profit, public, private organizations/agencies.
• Experience in collaboration, developing, and maintaining intradepartmental relationships.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in paraprofessional or professional administration.
• Experience with/knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public health, management, or business administration.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
