Strategic Communications Manager

Responsibilities

• Plans, coordinates, implements, and oversees the City’s communication efforts.
• Responds to media requests for information; develops press releases and submits to local media outlets and organizations.
• Provides information to the community regarding upcoming City events and related services.
• Oversees production of the City’s internal and, if desired, external newsletter.
• Affords assistance with the set-up, broadcast, and photography of Town meetings, news conferences, ribbon cuttings and/or other special events.
• Serves as Public Information Officer for the City of Longview and Emergency Operations Center.
• Collaborates with other neighboring governmental and institutional partners as required.
• Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of assigned personnel and ensures staff compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Develops, administers, and monitors budgets for areas of responsibility.
• Creates long term plans for the division and ensures the success of said plans.
• Works with various employees with communications-related duties throughout the City to coordinate city-wide communications efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Communications or related field, and four years’ experience coordinating municipal community relation activities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Qualifications

Must be able to perform physical demands including sitting for extended periods of time, standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting objects up to 40 pounds.
