About the role

The STRAIGHTENER APPRENTICE will learn how to inspect forgings and how to use a variety of hand tools, presses, and devices to straighten the forgings according to their specifications.

Responsibilities

  • Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment at the work area all the time.
  • Work safe and maintain an organized, lean work environment.
  • Show strong commitment to good attendance and punctuality.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Achieve quality and production requirements as per job-specific travelers.
  • Involvement in total quality management projects for continuous improvement.
  • Incorporate LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
  • Adhere to APP’s policies and procedures, including code of conduct and ethics, product safety, employee safety, and cultural beliefs.
  • Support plant quality system goals and productivity goals within the scope of the job.
  • Learn to read blueprints.
  • Learn to use tools such as straight edges, protractors, dial indicators, micrometers, and height gauges to check dimensions, curves, and angles of parts.
  • Learn to straighten small forgings with hand tools like mallets, hammers, and holding fixtures.
  • Learn to set up and operate presses to straighten large forgings.
  • Learn to maintain freezer logbook.
  • Perform any other duties as instructed by APP leadership.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of High School or equivalent.
  • Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
  • In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person.
  • Basic Math (addition, subtraction, decimal points, tolerance).
  • Basic English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehension).
  • Able to work overtime when required to meet operational deadlines.
  • Experience using measuring tools strongly desired.
  • Basic blueprint reading skills strongly preferred.
  • Ability to operate forklift a plus.
  • Microsoft Office skills a plus.
  • Aluminum heat treating experience and certification a plus.
  • Aluminum hardness and conductivity testing and certification a plus.
