Position Overview
We are looking for candidates who prioritize SAFETY—Zero Harm is the client’s #1 goal. The role involves inventory control, receiving materials, moving material, and operating equipment while adhering to policies and safety procedures. Ideal candidates are motivated, dependable, team-oriented, respectful, cooperative, flexible, adaptable, and punctual. The work requires lifting/standing and the ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments across all weather conditions. Most laydown yards are outdoor locations, and work is completed in heat and inclement weather.
Local travel may be required; client vehicles may be driven, and an MVR will be required for this position.
Dress Code & PPE
- Steel-toe boots (required)
- Long pants (jeans) and T-shirt (no inappropriate words or pictures)
- All other PPE provided by the client
- If worker wears eyeglasses, side shields are required (not provided by the client)
Responsibilities
- Issue material under proper authorization; process and file required records, including picking up, hauling, and delivering materials and operating company automotive equipment
- Check received material for quantity; inspect for identity, breakage, and condition; initiate and process material receipt and related records
- Report irregularities and abnormal conditions
- Identify, sort, and record returned material; place usable material in stock and sort non-usable material into scrap containers; record applicable information and process related records
- Operate computer terminals and printers supporting a materials management system, as well as other office equipment such as calculators and scanners
- Prepare and pack material for shipment or storage, including preparation of required shipping papers and related records (may include shipping and receiving hazardous materials such as gasoline, oil, oil containing PCB, and lead-acid batteries under required safety and environmental procedures)
- Operate material handling equipment such as hand trucks, forklift trucks, low lift trucks, hoists, overhead cranes, order pickers, or any other equipment as required
- Assist supervisor with maintaining efficient storage of materials, rearrangement or change of bins and racks, and making material location changes
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels through inventory cycle counts; perform discrepancy adjustments with appropriate approval and process all associated records
- Assist employees of equal or higher classification
- Perform similar or less skilled work
- Perform duties in accordance with company safety rules, operating regulations, and practices
Preferred Experience
- Heavy equipment operation (Case 821 wheelloader/all-terrain forklift—ability to operate up to 16K pounds of material)
- JLG telehandler operation (all sizes—ability to operate 7K & 12K pounds of material)
- Construction experience (training provided for specific equipment, but prior experience is helpful)
Materials handled are extremely heavy, awkwardly shaped, and long.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum of one year of work experience in inventory control and management, material handling, warehousing, or related experience
- Basic computer skills, including experience with inventory management software (e.g., Maximo) and Microsoft Excel and Word
- Strong working knowledge of logistics related to shipping and relocating inventory
- Ability to perform basic math functions
- Ability to work independently and possess good communication skills
- Ability to safely lift up to 70 pounds; successful completion of the Physical Ability Test (PAT) is required
- Appropriate state driver’s license; if a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required, it must be obtained within six months of entry into the job classification
- Ability to operate material handling equipment, including motorized forklifts and road vehicles
