About the role
GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) position is a development-focused role crafted to prepare you to manage your own store. Under the leadership of a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands-on program teaches the skills and knowledge needed to successfully operate a store, drive results, and develop and lead a team. The SMIT role is a fast track to management, providing work assignments and training opportunities to prepare you for promotion to a Store Manager.
Responsibilities
- Learn and lead daily store operations, including business performance, product management, and team support.
- Coach and support your team to provide exceptional service and guidance to customers.
- Represent the GNC brand by offering expert product knowledge and promoting the "Live Well" message.
- Support the total shopping experience, including visual and operational elements, sales initiatives, and customer relationships (e.g., MYGNC Rewards).
- Achieve and exceed personal sales and productivity goals while helping sales associates realize their potential.
- Demonstrate leadership and managerial skills, including ongoing feedback, recruiting, hiring, and performance management.
- Handle opening, closing, and operating the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory counts, and deposits according to GNC procedures.
- Attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization’s mission.
- Actively engage in training initiatives, projects, and goals to support your path to promotion.
Requirements
- Ability to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day.
- Frequent reaching, bending, and twisting—below waist and above shoulders.
- Repetitive hand-to-finger motions and reaching with hands and arms.
- Frequently lift up to 20 pounds, occasionally up to 40 pounds; push/pull up to 20 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders, reach, and bend.
- Work in temperatures ranging from 50–85 degrees, especially in stock room areas.
- Use of a computer up to 60% of the time throughout the day.
Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week.
- Mall and strip center SMITs must work at least two nights until closing, one weekend night, and one other night.
- Strip center SMITs must work a full shift on Saturdays.
- Mall SMITs must work peak business days, including weekends (Saturday & Sunday).
- All SMITs must work a minimum of one full Sunday per month.
- Downtown SMITs must work during lunch hours (11am–2pm, Monday–Friday) and one night per week until closing if the store is open in the evening; Saturdays are not required.
- SMITs must work all major U.S. holidays that the store is open.
