About the role

GNC's Store Manager in Training (SMIT) position is a development-focused role crafted to prepare you to manage your own store. Under the leadership of a Store Manager or District Manager, this hands-on program teaches the skills and knowledge needed to successfully operate a store, drive results, and develop and lead a team. This is a full-time hourly supervisory position designed as a fast track to management, providing work assignments and training opportunities to prepare you for promotion from SMIT to Store Manager.

Selection for the SMIT position does not guarantee promotion into a Store Manager position. After 90 days, your performance will be assessed to determine eligibility for promotion, considering factors such as performance, availability of openings, and willingness to accept a promotion at any location in the designated market.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and lead daily store operations, including business performance and product management, while ensuring your team has the tools to succeed.
  • Support the store as a management team member, leading in a manner consistent with GNC values and policies.
  • Represent the GNC brand by offering expert product knowledge and promoting the "Live Well" message to customers.
  • Engage in training initiatives, projects, and goals to support your path to promotion.
  • Support the total shopping experience, including visual and operational elements, sales initiatives, and customer relationships (e.g., MYGNC Rewards).
  • Achieve and exceed personal sales and productivity goals while helping sales associates realize their potential.
  • Build strong teams, demonstrate leadership, and provide ongoing feedback to store associates regarding work performance, including recruiting, hiring, and performance management.
  • Handle opening, closing, and operating the retail facility, including cash handling, inventory counts, and deposits according to GNC procedures.
  • Attend community fairs, conferences, meetings, and other public gatherings to promote the organization's mission and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Ability to stand or walk for up to eight hours a day.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and twisting—below the waist and above shoulders.
  • Frequently required to use repetitive hand-to-finger motions and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently lift up to 20 pounds; occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Push/pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders, reach, and bend.
  • Work in temperatures ranging from 50–85 degrees, especially in stock room areas.
  • Use of a computer up to 60% of the time throughout the day.

Schedule

SMITs are expected to work five (5) days / forty (40) hours a week, adhering to the following guidelines:

  • Mall and strip center stores: Work at least two nights during the week until closing, one weekend night, and one other night. Mall SMITs must work peak business days, including weekends (Saturday & Sunday), and a minimum of one full Sunday per month.
  • Strip center stores: Work a full shift on Saturdays.
  • Downtown stores: Work during the lunch hour of 11am to 2pm Monday through Friday. If the store is open in the evening, work one night per week until closing. Saturdays are not required.
  • Work all major U.S. holidays that the store is open.
