About the Role

This position reports to the District Manager and oversees retail store activities through direct supervision of Assistant Managers, Sales Associates, Utility Workers, and Team Leads. The Store Manager ensures the smooth flow of donated goods from collection to sales, including receiving, production, security, safety, loss prevention, inventory control, merchandising, and sales transactions. This role provides vision, leadership, and supervision to staff and may also manage day-to-day operations of other facilities or departments such as ADCs, E-Merchandise, or warehouse staff.

Responsibilities

  • Direct supervision of Assistant Managers, Sales Associates, Utility Workers, and Team Leads.
  • Delegate assignments to staff under the direction of the District Manager and keep them informed of policy changes and trends.
  • Direct, coach, and guide team members to help them attain individual growth and store goals.
  • Demonstrate leadership by holding all team members accountable for established best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Provide comprehensive training on job duties, policies, procedures, ethical codes of conduct, and corporate compliance.
  • Evaluate performance and take corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure store equity and compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, safety, security, quality standards, and agency policy.
  • Assist team members in understanding and complying with CARF standards.
  • Oversee and monitor the quality and quantity of merchandise and production output to meet sales goals.
  • Ensure the highest level of customer service to reduce complaints and problems.
  • Maintain proper volume of new goods merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Contribute to E-Merchandise inventory to meet revenue goals.
  • Handle cash register processes, money handling, paperwork, and deposits.
  • Provide tools, resources, and guidance to ensure the store runs smoothly and efficiently.
  • Maintain top-flight condition and appearance of the retail store, focusing on housekeeping and safety.
  • Communicate needs for repair, fixtures, and maintenance.
  • Set vision for store execution in merchandising, store presentation, inventory, and customer service relations.
  • Analyze sales and trends to maximize income opportunities.
  • Ensure all store documentation (daily/weekly sales, staff schedules, EAPs, production data) is completed accurately and timely.
  • Review applications, conduct interviews, and make hiring decisions for vacant positions.
  • Positively represent the store and agency to internal and external audiences.
  • Collaborate within the department to maximize service opportunities and maintain a continuous improvement agenda.
  • Review and analyze store sales, average transaction amounts, and departmental allocation to establish performance standards and detect trends.
  • Work with supervisors and direct reports to promote retail activities and develop strategies for increased revenues.
  • Available during nontraditional hours, including weekends, holidays, and evenings.
  • Serve as an emergency contact for agency locations outside regular business hours.
  • Cover areas outside the home base retail store, including traveling to other locations.
  • Analyze expenses, production, and sales to achieve maximum efficiency and revenue based on strategic goals.
  • Make recommendations to the District Manager to increase efficiency, revenue, and lower expenses.
  • Ensure good customer service, quality merchandise, competitive prices, and a positive donating/shopping experience.
  • Maintain systems to measure these activities regularly.
  • Analyze monthly production, sales, and donor reports to identify store weaknesses and develop corrective strategies.
  • Operate a forklift truck.
  • Complete all job duties and work requirements.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of military service or related full-time employment.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to make business, social, or civic contacts.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Ability to handle and maintain confidential information.
  • Positive attitude and ability to inspire enthusiasm in others.
  • Loyalty to the agency and its mission and policies.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.
  • Willingness to obtain a forklift license if able.
  • Ability to use good judgment, discretion, and initiative.
