Store Manager

About the role

Managers In Training learn to successfully manage the day‑to‑day responsibilities of running a Cumberland Farms convenience store location. You will spend time with a Training Manager and Supervising Manager during training, working various shifts to learn about the company, retail team, vendors, and guests. This role supports the Store Manager and other team members in delivering an exceptional guest shopping experience. After training, Managers In Training become part of the bench leadership team, helping to fill in during absences until assigned to their own store.

Responsibilities

• Greet guests with a warm welcome and a smile; deliver exceptional customer service.
• Assist Store Manager with building and developing a strong store team: training, scheduling, and coaching team members.
• Act as a leader by setting clear and measurable goals, holding self and others accountable, and communicating frequently and effectively.
• Monitor product levels on the sales floor, rotating stock and keeping product levels full (100% in‑stock target).
• Oversee quality control, merchandising, and food safety programs in locations that offer hot food.
• Maintain overall appearance and cleanliness of interior and exterior: coffee station clean and stocked, food service area spotless, bathrooms sparkling clean; delegate and complete tasks as necessary.
• Operate the cash register efficiently.
• In hot‑food locations, assist Store Manager by overseeing quality control, merchandising, safety programs, and other guidelines for successful food service operation.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or District Manager.

Training

During official training weeks, Managers In Training work alongside Training Managers, gaining insight and best practices for managing a convenience store location. During supervisory weeks (between training weeks) they work a variety of shifts alongside team members, putting leadership training into practice. After training, Managers In Training join the bench leadership team to cover absences until assigned to their own store.

Requirements

Education

• Minimum: High School diploma or GED
• Preferred: Additional education (not specified)

Experience

• Minimum: 1 year retail or food experience
• Preferred: 1 year in retail, guest service, or restaurant in a leadership role

Licenses / Certifications

• ServSafe / Food Safety certification a plus but not mandatory

Soft Skills

• Comfortable talking and interacting with guests and team members
• High energy
• Ability to move quickly from one activity to another

• Computer skills helpful

Schedule & Conditions

• Full‑time position; variety of hours day and night (stores may be open 24 hours)
• Weekend and holiday hours required
• 40 regular hours maximum with 5 hours overtime required
• Travel: 5%
• Ability to deliver deposits to the bank independently (where applicable) and have own vehicle to do so
• Physical requirements: regularly lift/move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift/move up to 25 lbs, occasionally lift/move up to 40 lbs; stand/walk 8 hours a day; reach overhead, bend, squat, twist, reach, grasp, grip; work in cooler (cold temperatures); moderate noise level
• Specialized attire required in food establishments (hats/visors, gloves, etc. provided)
