About the role

This internship is a paid, 40-hour-per-week, hands-on training program designed to develop and prepare you for a store leadership role. As a Stores Executive Intern, you will gain a realistic preview of the Executive Team Leader role (Assistant Store Manager) over a defined period. You will work closely with managers and team members to understand how Target’s retail business operates and what it takes to excel in a management role.

The majority of your time will be spent leading the team, identifying and working toward store priorities, and delivering great guest service. This program teaches how to lead within a retail store, including:

  • Driving guest experience and impacting store financial, team, and operational performance
  • Working alongside a mentor to learn effective leadership within the store
  • Leading your mentor’s departments with guidance
  • Leading and motivating a team, driving sales, merchandising products, and providing exceptional guest experiences
  • Ongoing development conversations to prioritize your growth
  • Supporting daily operations, building culture, and guiding your team to achieve goals

Responsibilities

As a Stores Executive Intern, your responsibilities may include:

  • Leading team members on the sales floor and in the backroom to align on daily business priorities
  • Working alongside your Executive Team Lead (ETL) mentor and other leaders to understand their roles
  • Leading daily priorities such as stocking shelves, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and building displays
  • Partnering with leaders on team member performance through teaching, coaching, training, and feedback
  • Addressing team member concerns and removing operational hurdles
  • Leading or presenting at daily huddles with the leadership team
  • Planning daily goals and organizing operational plans
  • Reviewing business reporting and guest insights to troubleshoot and follow up on opportunities
  • Delivering an exceptional guest experience by empowering team members
  • Providing new ideas and recommending solutions for business or team opportunities
  • Seeking growth opportunities and continuously learning throughout the internship
  • Demonstrating Target’s expectations of leaders and using feedback for personal development
  • Actively participating in training, developmental opportunities, and events
  • Demonstrating ethical conduct, safety, and compliance

Requirements

  • Enjoy interacting and helping others, including guests and team members

  • Previous retail experience preferred but not required
  • Strong interest in retail management within Target stores
